New regulation introduced by the Payment System Regulator, effective from 7th October 2024. It provides stronger protection if you fall victim to a scam. To find out more about this regulation, please see here.

 

APP scam

An APP scam occurs when someone is tricked into sending money from their account to a fraudster's account rather than the intended recipient. Fraud affects people from all walks of life, and you should never feel embarrassed if you've been scammed.

 

Key facts

The maximum amount for a refund is £85,000.
We may deduct a fixed excess of £100 from the total refund for each claim you make.
The outcome of an investigated claim will be communicated to you within five working days, but in some cases, it may take up to 35 business days.

Making a claim

If you believe you have been a victim of fraud and/or sent a payment to a fraudster's bank account, please contact your Relationship Manager immediately.

The new regulation only applies to UK payments sent from 7 October 2024 using Faster Payments or CHAPS (it does not include international payments). The claim must be made within 13 months of sending the payment.
